Who We Are / What We Do
Siren Island is a destination immersive design project. When participants become aware of its existence, they are drawn to its rock-like undulating forms and may undertake the pilgrimage across a body of water. If they successfully make it to the Island’s harbor, they are met by women with vats of colorful viscous serums. These Sirens are attuned to each participant’s physical and emotional states and offer ritual spa treatments to induce a sensual and spiritual experience. This practice grounds the mind and soothes the physical body, offering the ideal conditions to explore philautia, the state of self-love and foundation of all intimacy.
“To diminish the worth of the women, men had to diminish the worth of the moon. They had to drive a wedge between human beings and the trees and the beasts and the waters, because trees and beasts and waters are as loyal to the moon as to the sun. They had to drive a wedge between thought and feeling, between the lamplight by which they count the day’s earnings and the dark to which our Pan is ever connected. In losing you, they were losing their body wisdom, their moon wisdom, their mountain wisdom, they were trading the live wood of the maypole for the dead carpentry of the cross. For Christianity is merely a system for turning priestesses into handmaidens, queens into concubines, and goddesses in muses.” Adapted from texts in Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins
Modeled off the greek mythology of the Siren, it makes relevant the powerful untamed feminine that bestows healing powers and offers the wisdom of nature. Through archaeological and ethnographic research on the history and use of olive oil, our treatments revolve around oil bathing, giving the island its phrase ET OLEVM AD INFLVVNT, meaning “The Oil Will Flow.”
